Phase 2…

On the 9th of November, I viewed images in the Oriel Môn collection as well as their collection on the Art UK web site. I explored my project themes, particularly in relation to Wellbeing.

Sunset by Kyffin Williams

The sun acted like a focus for meditation, making me stop a little longer and my pulse slow down.  This reminded me of the meditation technique called Trataka.

The Window by Harry Hughes Williams

Pausing in front of this image to imagine and remember the warmth and the movement of the sun creating shadows across the surface, made my whole body relax. It made me linger.

Darlunio / Drawing by Claudia Williams

The sitter pausing, having to sit still.  The silky feeling of the cat fur helping to focus on the moment and the artist moving into her state of flow where the world stands still.

There were many more, less obvious examples and illustrations of Pause which I have observed and will explore later. Such as that very moment when a wave turns to come in again?

Moving from a composition that fills the space to one with an area of blank, simple colour gave a sense of ease and space. Image by Kyffin Williams.

The spaces in-between and around this illustration. Image by Charles Tunnicliffe.

The simple blocks of white angular shapes resonating with my paper forming.  Paining by Wilf Roberts. Paintings by Harry Hughes Williams and Bernard Farmer on the Art UK web site had a similar effect.
